EVA is pleased to announce the arrival of Bliss Lau. Invariably seeking to blur the lines between the garment and accessory, Bliss Lau represents the juxtaposition of culture, design and aesthetic. Bliss originally began her line with a handbag collection that transitioned into the markedly distinct selection of body-jewelry today.

By virtue of her approach to design and accessories without boundaries, jewelry has become a new medium to Bliss: a method to reshape and enhance the most beautiful and forgotten parts of the body. All of the jewelry is created and designed three-dimensionally using traditional garment draping techniques. Each season, Bliss focuses on a new part of the body to enhance and decorate.

Last night, Icelandic designer Mundi unveiled his SS2012 collection "Chained and dumped in the ocean" with an installation at EVA.

Icelandic artist, fim director and designer Mundi Vondi is the mind behind "Mundi Designs," a collection of uniquely textured garments. The multi-talented artist first appeared on Iceland's fashion scene with his bold patterned sweaters, sold at KronKron, a concept store in Reykjavik. Today, Mundi has gone global with a full line that includes outerwear, dresses and trousers, not to mention an independent film, Rabbit Hole, that received rave reviews during Paris Fashion Week.

Mundi is not limited to designing and filmmaking, though; while completing his studies in Iceland, Mundi and two classmates formed MoMS, an artist collective focused on sculpting, painting and interactive art events. Soon after its creation, MoMS partnered with well-known Austrian collective Gelitin and had various exhibitions from New York at the Deitch to Venice at the Biennale. Mundi is only at the cusp of a flourishing career with his sights set on redefining an industry by blurring the lines between fashion and art.

Carin Rodebjer was born on the island of Gotland, 130 miles southeast of Stockholm in the Baltic Sea. Her deep love for fashion brought her to New York to study at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Her namesake label was launched in Sweden in 2001, and has flourished ever since.

Carin Rodebjer designs for a modern woman who is not defined by borders. The collections are effortlessly elegant and sensual. “I believe in a design philosophy that is based on wardrobe essentials in combination with items catching the zeitgeist,” she says.

Director Barnaby Roper coaxes a supernatural performance from two of the Royal Danish Ballet's rising stars for his latest high concept vision, Vanitas. The filmmaker drew inspiration from photorealist painter Hans Henrik Lerfeldt for the surreal fantasy: “What I liked about his work is the cycle of life, beauty and decay,” Roper says of the artist, known for juxtaposing oversized insects with classical beauties. “The thread through the film is that these two elements are one and the same.” Soundtracked by an original score from the Raveonettes’ Sune Rose Wagner, the film features new autumn/winter looks from Roper's wife, fashion designer Camilla Staerk, whose luxe-gothic offerings are accented by fur, leather and lace. "There is a Danish sharpness and sensibility to my designs," she says. Haiku are swell, but our ideal form is Prose IV, a new line from New York (by way of Canada and Shanghai) designer Cassandra Hobbins.

A self-proclaimed supergeek, Hobbins specializes in pragmatic pieces: smart, multifunctional designs — a bat-sleeved heather gray cardigan that can be worn upside down and a double-breasted trench with detachable bottom and minicape — will save closet space, should you ever take them off. There’s also a paper-thin, floor-length sheath we liken to a Möbius strip.

Basics are neutral only in color. Snag tanks with haphazardly draped hems, asymmetrical tees, and punkish silk blouses sans shoulders. Our favorites are a voluminous, electric blue button-down and a sleeveless waxed cotton tent dress that fall on the feminine side of androgynous.

There’s a trunk show this Sunday, 2-7 p.m., at Eva New York. Write it down.

Jeff Dodd, David J. Krause, and Nina Zilka met while studying fashion design at Pratt Institute. During their sophomore year they realized they shared the belief that American fashion can be both conceptual and accessible. The following year they came together to form the twentyten.

the twentyten creates avant-garde pieces that remain functional for everyday life, juxtaposing hand-crafted fabrications against a futuristic design sensibility. Their collection is currently housed in some of the most progressive boutiques in NYC.

As a member of the Pratt Design Incubator for Sustainable Innovation the twentyten is dedicated to creating morally responsible clothing.

You seem to be one of the few emerging labels that retains complete control over the way your clothes are presented. Can you talk a little bit about presentation- what have you done in the past, what do you think works/ what doesn't work for you?

We really enjoy collaborating with fellow artists and designers every season because it's exciting and inspriring and also a nice way to spend time with friends we don't usually see. We worked with Eva Mueller, the video artist two seasons back and she made a wonderful video presentation to play over our show. We've also worked with Elle Rex and Mathew Barela, Fake Love and We Came in Peace for two other video lookbooks... those are always a unique expereince since none of the twentyten has any training in film or video and so it's cool to see our work melded with someone else's ideas. This season we also worked with Carrie Bilbo, the jewelry designer, who made some pieces based on our collection... that was so amazing, to see our inspirations and ideas used in a totally different material, metal as opposed to fabric. On the other hand, working with other people is a very fine balance... what works least for us is when we feel like we are losing creative control of our product, which is why we are very protective of working with PR, production companies and stylists directly on our shows. I imagine we can be difficult to work with because we tend to think multifaceted- from our clothes, to the invite, to the lookbook layout to the layout of the show.... but at the same time, it's exactly that extreme attention to detail that allows us to have such a tight and cohesive product.

The collection currently in stores is really sharp, really black. So many times designers cite using black as a way to show detail or really stress silhoutette, etc. How do you approach black/use black?
Well, we actually moved pretty far away from that for the new Spring/Summer collection, and even right now as we are designing for Fall 2011, we are less interested in black. For the collection in EVA right now, we were very interested in working with texture and silhouette, and, like you said, black makes it easy to make that the main focus. I think those structural pieces and the yarn pieces really pop because they are in black. But now we're all really excited about a lot of color... like over-saturated color... and tons and tons of prints with simpler silhouettes for Spring.

You probably get the process question all the time as you're a three-member team. Regardless, we'll ask it- what is your process like? Who takes care of what?

The design is all done together, 100%. We usually spend a few weeks pulling inspirations and showing each other images, and then we start drawing together until we narrow the collection down to the pieces we really want. After that we can all start working on pieces... David might start patterning one specific pant while Jeff sews the silk and I iron all the seams for him or something...the collection does change, since sometimes we make a piece that we were excited about in a sketch, and then see it and it just doesn't work. Then we have to literally go back to the drawing board and come up with something new that excited us.

You do both menswear and womenswear, and I know from being in the store that a lot of guys will try on some of your women's pieces. How is designing for men and women different for you?

Interesting question... we go back and forth on menswear. On the one hand, the twentyten is made up of two boys and one girl, so the boys obviously want something by us to wear out and get photographed in. However, none of us are particularly inspired by or excited by menswear, definitely not the same way we are constantly excited by womenswear. After our Spring/Summer season, we are thinking we may skip it for fall. There is great menswear out there, but it usually lies in the details, and maybe we aren't the designers to make those garments. I wish there were more men who wore things like our womens' pieces, but sadly, the majority of women are willing to take more fashion risks than men.
Do you wear your own clothing a lot?

Nina does, yes... constantly. She's been slowly cleaning out her wardrobe, so at this point it's probably 97% the twentyten, 3% other. As we said above, the boys have much less they can wear since we've designed much less menswear.
What are your favorite pieces in the store right now?

The shoulder cardigan x10000000. Nina wears hers every single day, and all of our friends have been begging for them.

EVA is happy to add Rochambeau to its designer roster this season. The selection of the line at EVA is full of draped, twisted jersey pieces, suitable for both sexes, and a hooded textured cardigan. See below for a few pictures and and a short interview with the Rochambeau designers.

How many people are on the Rochambeau team?
There are three members of Rochambeau. Michael Venker is the head designer and Josh Cooper and Laurence Chandler manager brand development. In addition, the three members offer each other as sound boards for ideas, concepts and trends for the brand.

When/how did you guys start?
Rochambeau began in 2008 after Michael Venker received a Golden Thimble award at Parsons for design excellence. The three then bonded over menswear and the inception of Rochambeau began.

Can you pick a favorite piece that we have in stock at EVA?
We really love the suspender jersey top- We love the modest construction of the garment by creating a layered front out of a single piece of organic cotton jersey.

Who manages what on your team?
We each manage each other to a degree, but I would say overall Laurence manages the team, and keeps everyone up to date on deadlines and goals.

Why menswear?
Its an area we felt, as men, we could have a strong perspective and direction. We felt like the market is saturated with womenswear and that there was an opening and demand in the market for creative mens pieces with a pragmatic price point.

Do your pieces have an intentional unisex appeal?
In the beginning it wasn't intentional but due to the response that women gave our brand we started toying with the idea of developing the jerseys to fit that market.

Womenswear in the future?
Yes, we are currently developing and coming up with concepts for a women's capsule as soon as A/W 2011.

What are your future plans?
We want to master our team, including our fabric sources, production managers, trim developers and expand into other areas of design and develop relationships with other brands to start collaboration. And then retire at 35. (!)

Stefania Pia's "Someday I'll Find You" at EVA New York

Last night marked the unveiling of Stefania Pia's monthlong jewelry and art exhibition entitled "Someday I'll Find You." Stefania's collection of found-objects suspended from vintage textile strips now hang throughout the store- on the mannequins, on greenery-framed patchwork tapestries and from clusters of wool -wrapped tree branches. Also included in the exhibition were several of Stefania's collages, similar in style to her necklaces, with a combination of found materials mixed with fluorescent paint. Brian McPeck and MattMcAuley of TV Baby provided the sound for the night with a live sound performance entitled "Object Spirit."

EVA is beginning to stock the floors with the Fall collections and there’s something for everyone in the first three arrivals from Sally Lapointe, Bedford St. Laundry and Hache.

From Sally, think a striking monochromatic white and black palette with pieces including ultra-cropped jackets, unexpected materials such as neoprene and latex, loose tops with bold printed graphics, sturdy miniskirts and long, hand-printed, elegantly draped gowns.

TOMTOM is back in stock at EVA! Launched by Elena Coleman in the Fall of 2008, this New York-born jewelry line is the result of Coleman's background as a formally-trained architect, and it shows. Just when we thought designer Hillary Taymour couldn't make her signature leather-pleated bags and harness vests better than they already are, out pop these fun images. I mean, who doesn't like a giant white moose head plaque with a leather handbag hanging off the antler? Really, who?

LE NEED: AKASAKA PRESENTS "LE BLOB"

Better known for his furniture design, Fernando Akaska has moved to a smaller scale to work with metals and jewelry construction. Organic and amorphous shapes create a variety of pieces in this collection by the Sao Paolo native, with many of the structures heavily based on natural forms such as bones and claws.

Quality metals are used throughout this collection, and Akasaka incorporates 95% sterling silver in to each piece. The selection at EVA includes miniature claw earrings with intricate markings and concavities that cover the surface. Thin bracelets with a similar surface treatment wrap the wrist in sculpture and unrepeated shapes.

A ring is created from panels of thin mental welded into a circle. Segments of metal are assembled in decreasing length from the middle out, creating the illusion of a spinal cord. The ring has a shimmer to it that is similar to a shell or precious stone.

Barbara I Gongini offers an array of sleek, black over-sized garments that manage to be . This rain gives the perfect excuse to come into EVA and snap up one of these voluminous pieces, straight out of Denmark.

One garment is in a light weight water repellent fabric of nylon. Featuring several tie strings, the article can be constantly adjusted to suit the shape and drape of your desire. This is an adaptable and practical piece- not to mention, it makes taking a walk in the rain a hell of a lot more stylish.

The second piece, more cloak like, is in cotton. Draping over the back with a cocoon like shape, this sleeveless robe has gathering around the entire hem and neck line which can be tightened or loosened to suit the wearer. Suddenly, we want it to rain...

EVA just got in some great jeans from LA-based Them Atelier (..in addition to some great reads- see post below) Pictured first on the left is the basin skinny jean in over-dyed black, with sporadic tye-dye effects throughout that reveal some blue. In the middle is also the basin skinny jean in a red wash with the same irregular tye-dyeing as the black. Although the tye-dye is not too noticeable from far away, subtle bits can be seen when you look at the jean closer, as seen in the swatches below. The right-most jean is an overdyed-indigo jean with a slightly higher-rise than the basins.

EVA just got a shipment of jeans and tanks from LA-based Them Atelier. While we were excited to be receiving a shipment of some of the softest, thinnest (and most suited for this weather) jeans we've ever touched as well as some easy back-slit tees, we were equally excited to receive a copy of the company's magazine, them rag. The thick-paged second issue is filled with some fantastic writing and stories, accompanied by some dream photo spreads (and some nice typesetting, to boot.) Flipping through the issue, we found a two-page spread on Jules Kim, she of Bijules Jewelry- an EVA favorite. Written by Daniel Pettus and photographed by Eliot Lee Hazel, Jules is dripping with jewelry of her design, much of which is available for sale, right here at EVA.

SungHee Bang dives into the deep end with this highly functional urban-chic collection. She lept into her own vision straight out of FIT, where she won first place in both her Associate and Bachelor of Fine Art graduation shows, in Art and Knitwear respectively. This collection has an air of rawness in its exposed zips and edgy design features such as a layer of rips present on one piece that can be worn as a shrug jacket or as three quarter length high waist shorts. This theme of versatility is carried throughout the collection. Textural gathering allows for tailored draping on the front of a piece that can be worn as a jump suit or as a dress. Effective use of buttons gives the hem a military feel that is also present on the neckline of another piece. SungHee Bang has created a two-tone, bone like animal print that brings variation to the collection and a slight organic presence within such a bold almost futuristic array of garments. Though this is her first collection under her name, she is by no means new to fashion, having interned at Donna Karan, J Mendel, Jill Stuart and Peter Som, and having had several of her prints be featured in Alexander McQueen's Spring/Summer 2009 Collection.

The event hosted by EVA and Mandy Coon last Tuesday also featured up-and-coming accessories designer Hillary Taymour's new line, Collina Strada. Only in its third season, the brand's quirky cool and eco-friendly handbags and satchels- and yes, harness wallets that are essentially mini leather vests - have been met with great response for their balance of style and function. Taymour's designs are inspired by vintage ethnic prints updated in canvas and leather. The slouchy hobo style Ferra bags, compact and versatile Sierra satchels, and of course, the leather harness vests worn by Taymour and many of the partygoers, were huge hits at the event.

LOGAN NEITZEL

EVA just got in pieces from Logan Neitzel, a New York City-based designer who says he "creates by compulsion." Neitzel's work conveys a sense of aggression, seen through his heavy use of leather and skins, mix of materials, and dismissal of the notion that a garment with raw edges isn't finished. After a childhood in Idaho that was included "bucking hay by day and sketching alongside his mom's fashion magazines at night," he found himself at Seattle for design school, and his time since then has been marked by a run on Project Runway, where he made it to one challenge from the finale, and showing his first collection at NYFW.

As for the pieces on the rack at EVA now, think a pair of murky greenish-blue marbled paneled leggings, leather-pocketed tanks, a crocodile duffel and coin purse, leather epaulets, and a mesh-concealed center panel dress black dress with tiny tears to reveal the same marbling effect seen in the leggings. Launched last year, the New York-based designer Sandee Shin describes A(r)mor as a hybrid of soft, subtle draping with rougher, sexy chain materials. Remember those old Acne Atacoma's or the mirror wedges that were all over the blogosphere or even your first shoe studding experience? Looks like shoes and metal are going to be an item for longer than you thought with Balenciaga pre-fall and Chanel Couture incorporating some metallic footwear.

Below is a video of a japanese installation. It's basically two ferrofluid (magnetic liquid) sculptures moving to music by Testuhide Hidaka.

"Fluid moves synthetically with the music, as if it breathes, and the condition of the fluid's surface emerges as autonomous and complex. In this art we want to harmonize several opposing properties, such as hardness (iron) / softness (fluid) and freedom (desire for design) / restriction (natural powers such as gravity). This work emerges as an autonomous transformation of the material itself: sometimes it seems like a horn, sometimes a fir tree, and sometimes even like the Tower of Babel."

So the weather here in NYC has recently taken a turn towards the cold, gloomy, and wet. Yep, its that time of the year again when the changing of the seasons has made itself VERY well known.
